Princess Wei Yang - C10

Chapter 10

Li Zhang Le

A slender and elegant figure emerged, captivating everyone who beheld her. She had exquisite eyes framed by long lashes and wore a pale green dress embroidered with begonia flowers on the skirt, shimmering like the afternoon sun. A translucent sash tied around her waist accentuated her petite figure, making her as graceful as a willow and as charming as a canary in the breeze. Her simple hairstyle featured a gold bodkin holding a peach-shaped pearl that dangled gracefully, highlighting her soft, attractive features and giving her a naturally youthful, elegant appearance.

Under the blue skies, she walked slowly forward, smiling as if a thousand flowers were blooming in spring, akin to the radiant moon during mid-autumn. A gentle melody seemed to emanate from all around her, complemented by the graceful flight of cranes, causing everyone to momentarily lose themselves in her presence.

This was the charismatic appeal of Da Xiaojie Li Zhang Le—a spell from which no one could escape.

She resembled a delicate fairy. Yet beneath this enchanting exterior lay a heart far from pure, tainted by jealousy and ambition. This captivating creature was the most beautiful on the outside, yet the ugliest on the inside. She was a master of manipulation, and like her mother, she would stop at nothing to achieve her goals.

Wei Yang observed her with bitterness and resentment in her gaze. It was no wonder that she had lost to Zhang Le. Such beauty and a soothing, mellow voice could soften any heart.

Wei Yang was a traditional woman. Once she fell in love, she loved with everything she had. After eight years of marriage with Tuo Ba Zhen, she felt she had given him her all—heart and soul. Even when the world stood against him, she was there to defend him, loving him to the point of disregarding her own life.

They had spent eight years together, and it was both sad and foolish to be kind to someone who didn’t reciprocate those feelings. For this reason, she had to give Tuo Ba Zhen credit for enduring the facade of love for eight years until he became Emperor. Only then did she realize that the person he had truly desired all along was Zhang Le.

Reflecting on this, Wei Yang understood that, despite having lived a significant part of her life, she had merely been a supporting character in someone else's story. It was both laughable and pitiful.

"Chang Xi, how can you speak like that to San Mei?" Zhang Le furrowed her brows, disapprovingly gazing at Chang Xi.

Chang Xi, in the midst of trying to exert an intimidating presence, immediately softened her demeanor. She walked up to Zhang Le and took her arm, swinging it playfully like a child. "Da Jie, I was just kidding with San Jie! Don’t tell Mother about it, or I’ll definitely get in trouble!"

Zhang Le turned her pretty eyes to Wei Yang’s face and smiled. "That depends on whether San Jie will forgive you. If San Mei agrees, I’ll let it go, but if she doesn’t want to, then there’s nothing I can do."

Chang Xi stared at Wei Yang resentfully.

Wei Yang laughed coldly on the inside, but on her face was a lovely smile. “Da jie don’t need to worry. Indeed, Wu Mei was only kidding with me.”

Zhang Le nodded. “That’s good then. Chang Xi, go and apologize to your San jie.”

Zhang Le remained the same as always—playing the role of the middleman, appearing demure, fair, compassionate, and approachable. In her past life, this facade had deceived her into trusting Zhang Le, only for her to be ultimately betrayed. Compared to Chang Xi, Zhang Le showed greater arrogance and a stronger sense of ego. She used her status to intimidate others in a manner far more treacherous than Chang Xi.

A flicker of coldness crossed Wei Yang’s eyes, but it disappeared just as quickly, unnoticed by anyone else.

Standing to the side, Chang Xi stated icily, “Sorry, San Jie!” She emphasized the term “San Jie” as if she were clenching her teeth.

With a gentle expression, Wei Yang smiled. “It’s all right, Wu Meimei.”

Chang Xi remained silent, glaring at Wei Yang with malice.

Zhang Le stepped forward and patted Wei Yang’s arm. “From now on, we are good sisters. Let’s try to be more open-minded and less antagonistic. Wu Meimei, we should go. The teacher is waiting for us. San Meimei, you should hurry along and greet Father; you shouldn’t keep him waiting.”

Wei Yang noticed that Zhang Le was subtly defending Chang Xi but pretended not to recognize it.

Chang Xi’s resentment only deepened. As she walked past Wei Yang, she purposely stretched out her foot to trip her. Wei Yang saw the move but acted as if she didn’t notice, maintaining a straight posture. Chang Xi smirked arrogantly, eagerly anticipating Wei Yang’s humiliation. She heard Wei Yang let out a soft cry, but unexpectedly, Zhang Le also tripped and fell. The two fell into the pond together.

Chang Xi was horrified.

“Da Jie! Da Jie!” Chang Xiao, who had been left behind, rushed over.

Wei Yang emerged from the pond, drenched in murky water and looking like a soaked wild mud and leaves. As she stood up, she immediately reached out to help Zhang Le. The water only reached their waists, so they were unharmed as long as they stayed standing. Unfortunately, Zhang Le’s beautiful dress was soiled, and her hair was a tangled mess. She was left in shock, unsure of what had just happened.

Chang Xi had not anticipated that Zhang Le would fall as well; her intention had solely been to embarrass Wei Yang. The crowd around them fell into stunned silence.

Chang Xiao quickly instructed the dumbfounded servants who were standing by, “Stop staring! Quickly help Da xiaojie and San xiaojie up!” One by one, Zhang Le and Wei Yang climbed out of the pond, muddy from head to toe.

As Wei Yang emerged, she said with a hint of grievance, “Wu meimei, I know you don’t like me, but how could you possibly push Da jie into the pond too? That’s too much!” Suddenly, everyone’s gaze turned to Chang Xi.

Having grown up under Da Furen’s wings and being close to Zhang Le, Chang Xi often used that relationship to overlook or step on others. At this moment, even she couldn’t believe the situation. She stuttered, “No… Da jie, I didn’t… I just wanted to push her over… I didn’t know it would turn out like this!” She looked over to her biological sister, Chang Xiao. “Si jie, you saw it right? Help me say something. I didn’t push Da jie! It’s Wei Yang! She definitely dragged Da jie down!”

In truth, Chang Xiao had witnessed Chang Xi’s attempt to trip Wei Yang. However, she did not see any suspicious actions from Wei Yang that would explain why Da Jie had fallen, too. Da Jie was Da Furen’s favourite, and even a small mistake could lead to severe consequences for them.

Realizing the magnitude of the situation, Chang Xiao’s face paled as she quickly defended, “Da jie, Chang Xi definitely didn’t mean to—”

Wei Yang looked down, appearing very pitiful. “Da jie, it’s all my fault. If I hadn’t angered Wu meimei, this wouldn’t have happened to you.” As she spoke, she took the initiative to use her own clothes to wipe off a footprint from Zhang Le’s skirt. Earlier, when Chang Xi attempted to trip her, she had taken that opportunity to step on Zhang Le’s skirt, causing both of them to fall into the pond.

Zhang Le hesitated, glancing between Chang Xi and Wei Yang. In the confusion, she could only vaguely remember someone grabbing her, but she didn’t know who it was.

Chang Xi, feeling embarrassed and now angry, pointed at Wei Yang and shouted, “Why are you pretending to be pitiful?! It was your fault!” She wanted to rush over and grab Wei Yang’s arms.

The servants had never witnessed the young ladies behaving so improperly, leaving them unsure of how to respond. Just then, an authoritative voice broke through the tension. “What kind of trouble are you causing here?!”

Everyone turned around to see Prime Minister Li approaching. The onlookers were left astounded.
