Ancient Gods
Mo Yang lost his cultivation abilities and early memories shortly after being rescued by his master at the age of five. Despite displaying significant potential for cultivation in the following years, his progress stalled, despite his master’s relentless efforts to assist him. At fifteen, tragedy struck when his Fourth Master was killed while searching for a rare herb to aid Mo Yang, leaving him without a father figure and mourning the profound love his master had for him.
Overwhelmed with grief at his master’s tomb, an unexpected event occurred that unlocked the Star Emperor Battle Tower and the Ancient Sutra Mental Scroll, awakening the bloodline of his Ancient Divine Clan. Once deemed a "good-for-nothing," he begins a journey of cultivation that challenges his destiny. Along the way, he seeks to unravel the mysteries of his past and his parents.
However, achieving legendary status is fraught with challenges; he faces jealousy and resentment from those around him, which disrupts his journey. Throughout his quest, he meets friends, adversaries, and potential lovers from various sects and realms. Nevertheless, nothing will deter him from claiming his father's legacy.

"Ancient Gods" is a captivating story that stands out among many Chinese novels, particularly for its length and distinctive elements. One of the main aspects that piqued my interest is how it explores themes of amnesia and his search for his origins. The protagonist's struggle with the gradual revelation of his background creates an intriguing mystery that keeps readers engaged.
I really appreciated how the main character's power progression was paced; it felt both satisfying and well-timed. The addition of living artifacts and companion pets brought a unique element to the story. One of these companions even has a funny obsession with the protagonist, which helps to lighten the mood at various moments. While the main character can appear cold and selfish at times, it's important to remember that he endured bullying for a decade. When he embarked on his cultivation journey, he had two primary goals: to become one of the strongest and to discover his origins. Everything else was secondary.
While editing the initial chapters, I found myself puzzled by the cultivation levels. The AI translated version I was using was quite inconsistent, with realms, levels, and stages that didn't align. I tried looking up information on Fandom, which is usually a reliable resource since many donghua based on novels have their entries there, but unfortunately, I couldn't find anything helpful. So, I decided to create my own cultivation page to clarify the story and establish a logical, coherent order. After researching online and reviewing other novels, I finally developed Mo Yang's cultivation system.
While reading, I noticed that some events may seem repetitive or redundant. However, in my opinion, these occurrences are essential for illustrating the protagonist's growth and the development of his powers throughout the narrative.
I recommend avoiding comparisons with other translations, as they will vary. However, I believe the edits I've made provide clarity and make for a much smoother reading experience.
Overall, I had a wonderful experience immersing myself in the story while also editing it. It was a rewarding journey that I recommend to anyone interested in the genre. -FD
