Chapter 3

Lingxu's Hostage

In the early morning of the next day, Mo Yang packed his bags, took one last look at the place where he had lived for ten years, then walked out of the small courtyard and walked towards the foot of the wooden peak.

He planned to leave the Lingxu Sect directly, but he never expected to be blocked by several sect disciples as soon as he stepped off Mufeng.

The leader was Luo Hao, a disciple of Zeng Mufeng.

"Mo Yang, have you lost all shame and decided to leave? A disciple from a different peak sneered as he addressed Mo Yang.

"After all these years at Lingxu Sect, the Fourth Elder has always favored you. He must have shared many of the sect's secrets with you. We can't let you take those secrets away!" Luo Hao said coldly.

Once Luo Hao spoke, other disciples chimed in, agreeing with him.

Mo Yang took a moment to assess the sect's disciples before him. Since the Fourth Elder's passing, he had faced continuous mockery and insults from these individuals. After spending a decade in this place, he chose to avoid confrontation as he prepared to depart. Ultimately, he decided to ignore them and proceed on his path.

"What? Are you not just a trash, but deaf as well?"

Seeing Mo Yang ignore him, Luo Hao’s anger flared, and he quickly moved to block Mo Yang’s path.

"Out of respect for our history together, I ask you to let me pass. I have no desire to engage with you," Mo Yang said, maintaining a calm tone and a neutral expression, which should make readers feel admiration for his composure.

"Respect? Ha! Mo Yang, have you forgotten that you're a failure?"

Luo Hao continued, his voice dripping with contempt. "And the Fourth Elder is dead, understand? No one will protect you now!"

As he spoke, he raised his hand and slapped Mo Yang across the cheek.

Though the action was not meant to inflict serious harm, it was incredibly humiliating.

The other disciples were preparing to laugh at the scene, but their mirth was cut short when they witnessed something unexpected.

Suddenly, a scream erupted from Luo Hao, accompanied by a sharp sound of bones breaking.

A glimmer of murderous intent flashed in Mo Yang's eyes. In an instant, he had seized Luo Hao's wrist with his right hand and twisted it with a swift motion, likely breaking it in the process.

“Who is the trash now?” Mo Yang's cold words carried a flicker of suppressed anger and resolve, revealing a depth of emotion that made his resolve more compelling.

His indifferent words struck Luo Hao like a series of slaps, making his expression shift back and forth.

Mo Yang had already moved on, but Luo Hao refused to back down. Despite the pain he was feeling, he yelled out in anger and unleashed a punch aimed at Mo Yang's face with his left hand.

What Luo Hao didn't realize was that Mo Yang's cultivation had advanced far beyond what anyone expected, making him a formidable opponent now.

The outcome became clear: Mo Yang sidestepped the punch effortlessly and, in a swift motion, retaliated by striking Luo Hao’s fist with his right hand.

There was a sharp crack as Luo Hao's fist twisted, shattering all his finger bones. The intense agony from the broken bones and tendons twisted Luo Hao's face, already distorted from pain, into an even more pained expression. He screamed like a slaughtered pig and staggered backward.

The others finally reacted, unconsciously taking a step back as their expressions shifted to shock. The individual known to all in the Lingxu Sect as the ultimate failure, who had been unable to advance in martial arts after practicing for ten years. When had he become so powerful all of a sudden? They had witnessed that Mo Yang never used True Qi before, yet his strength today was formidable.

"Since you were once a disciple of Fourth Elder, I will spare your life. Now leave!" Mo Yang stated, casting a casual glance at Luo Hao.

Then he turned his attention to the others.

Although they had come with Luo Hao, their cultivation levels were similar to his. At that moment, they looked at Mo Yang with uncertainty, feelings of cowardice washing over them.

Just then, a figure dashed in at high speed—the Second Elder.

After one of the disciples reported the incident, the Second Elder arrived to investigate. As soon as Luo Hao retaliated, his cold gaze landed on Luo Hao. He noted that Luo Hao appeared pale and was clearly in agony. He frowned, a hint of confusion crossing his face. He then looked at Mo Yang and turned to the other disciples, asking with a hint of skepticism, "What happened here?"

Even though the disciples had felt fear before, the arrival of the Second Elder bolstered their courage. Their fear turned into hostility as they accused Mo Yang, shouting, "Mo Yang was the one who injured Luo Hao!"

"Second Elder, in recent years, the Fourth Elder has taught Mo Yang many martial arts secrets. We thought he shouldn’t leave with this knowledge, as we were worried it might be leaked. We tried to reason with him, but this loser... he suddenly attacked and injured Luo Hao!"

"Yes, it’s this… worthless person… he just struck out and hurt Brother Luo Hao!"

The group of disciples gestured towards Mo Yang, typically labeling him as worthless. However, recalling the earlier events, they quickly revised their words.

The Second Elder furrowed his brow in confusion. He knew Mo Yang was incompetent; the boy couldn't even tap into any True Qi. So how could he have possibly inflicted such significant injury on Luo Hao, a practitioner of the Peak stage of the Core Realm, with a sudden assault?

Today, Mo Yang seemed different; something about him felt off compared to the previous day. The elder couldn't quite pinpoint what had changed.

Mo Yang's mention of the sect's techniques being shared with outsiders underscored the stakes and heightened the tension of the confrontation.

Mo Yang's eyes flashed with anger, and a smirk spread across his face as he retorted, "Those techniques were given to me by my master. What right do you have to take them from me?"

Over the years, the Fourth Elder had focused primarily on seeking out spiritual herbs, leaving him little time to manage the sect's affairs. Consequently, many elders became dissatisfied, making him a target for their grievances. Mo Yang understood the situation well. He realized that departing peacefully today was not feasible, so he chose to take a stand.

As expected, the Second Elder's fury erupted at Mo Yang’s words.

"Impudent brat! Not only will I destroy your meridians today, but I will take your life if I so choose!" The Second Elder was taken aback that Mo Yang would dare speak to him this way.

Without hesitation, he unleashed his True Qi and struck down at Mo Yang's head with ferocity. For any ordinary person, that blow would have been lethal. The Second Elder was clearly intent on killing Mo Yang outright.

As the Second Elder advanced toward Mo Yang, the other disciples watched with malicious enjoyment. Luo Hao, in particular, had a chilling look in his eyes, his expression unusually malevolent. They had been contemplating ways to escalate the situation, but they never anticipated that Mo Yang would provoke the Second Elder so brazenly. It was clear to them that the Second Elder was intent on killing him! Once that palm strike connected, Mo Yang was certain to meet his end.

At that moment, Mo Yang's body began to retreat swiftly, moving with astonishing speed. As he pulled back, a powerful wave of energy surged from within him. Mo Yang was filled with rage; he hadn't anticipated that the Second Elder would attempt to kill him without hesitation!

Despite knowing that the Second Elder possessed Sky Realm[i] cultivation, a full realm above his own, he realized he had no choice. If he didn't strike back, he would surely face death. The Second Elder's palm strike missed, and he looked taken aback as he observed Mo Yang, who had managed to retreat more than ten meters away.

At this point, a remarkably intense True Qi energy radiated from Mo Yang's entire being. Upon closer inspection, the Second Elder's expression shifted dramatically, for the energy surrounding Mo Yang was unmistakably that of the Earth Realm!

How could this be possible? Everyone in the Lingxu Sect believed that Mo Yang was useless and incapable of cultivating. Yet, the aura he emanated now was noticeably stronger than that of many esteemed prodigies within the sect. It was common knowledge that the sect's top prodigy disciple had only reached the peak of the Core Realm and was still one breakthrough away from entering the Earth Realm, all while being several years older than Mo Yang.

Luo Hao and the rest of his group stood in shock, unable to comprehend what had just occurred.

"I just want to leave peacefully!"

Mo Yang's voice emerged, and in that instant, his entire presence underwent a remarkable transformation; faint glimmers of light began to flow across his body, a manifestation of True Qi radiating from him, indicating that he had reached the Earth Realm.

"Earth Realm, you… you, actually..." The Second Elder found himself momentarily stunned by this unexpected turn of events. For someone who had been labeled a useless person, achieving the Qi Realm would have been reasonable, but the Earth Realm was something entirely different.

The Second Elder immediately froze. He vividly recalled sensing no cultivation power from Mo Yang just the day before in the back mountain; how could he have made such a leap overnight?
