The Legend of Chu Qiao

Chu Qiao
, known as Agent 005 within the Secret Service’s 11th Division in her previous life, was wrongfully imprisoned after being framed. After a daring escape, she heroically sacrificed her life to protect the Secret Service by defusing a bomb intended to destroy them.

Following her death, she transmigrated back in time to the Xia Dynasty, a feudal era, where she began a new life in the body of an 8-year-old slave girl. She first escapes from a hunting game when she is the only survivor. She quickly learns that to survive, she must be ruthless, and her knowledge from her past life helps her stay alive.

Chu Qiao's story features a formidable heroine whose resilience and determination not only transformed her own destiny but also profoundly impacted the world around her. Set against a backdrop of political intrigue and societal upheaval, her journey is marked by her fierce independence and unwavering spirit.

Throughout her adventures, she finds herself the object of affection for three distinct men, each representing different aspects of love and devotion, adding complexity to her character and choices. Their influence shapes her journey as she navigates loyalty, sacrifice, and the pursuit of justice and freedom.

A few years ago, I became obsessed with a Chinese drama titled "Princess Agents." As I reflect on all the dramas I've watched, I've compiled a list of the ones that have frustrated me the most, and "Princess Agents" ranks in my top three. I was very invested in the story, and when season one ended on a sad cliffhanger—something common in dramas—I was upset to hear that after five years, season two was unlikely to air. (*)

After reading some information about what happened after Season 1 ended on MyDramaList (MDL), I discovered that an English version of the novel was available. As is often the case, the drama and the novel differ, but I must say that this drama introduced me to Zhao Li Ling and Shawn Dou, and I’ve been a fan ever since!

The novel itself is a slow-burning romance, featuring a heroine who loves three men in different ways and ultimately becomes a legend. It contains everything I look for in a novel. Editing this novel was certainly no chore for me; that’s an understatement! -FD

(*) In 2025, the season was announced, although with different younger actors.
