I am a big fan of donghuas. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy C-dramas and K-dramas as well, but I find that donghuas tend to stay truer to the narratives of the novels they are based on. While they are still subject to censorship, I am genuinely impressed by many of them. They are the primary reason I read the original novels.
One donghua that stands out to me is "Supreme God Emperor." I find it particularly interesting because it fully embraces the protagonist's harem and his affection for each character, which is quite rare. Most adaptations tend to downplay harem dynamics by either presenting love interests or suggesting that all the women have a crush on the main character without it being reciprocated. Many of these versions often focus on him loving just one woman, which can be disappointing as it doesn't reflect the narrative of the novel.
The "Supreme God Emperor" novel itself is quite different. It does not shy away from the harem aspect. It's a lengthy read, like most works in this genre, but it is absolutely worth it. -FD
